1. Do I need to live in Altamonte Springs to take part in the special needs recreation programs?

No. Programs are made available to any individual with special needs in Altamonte Springs and surrounding communities.

2. How do I sign up for programs and activities?

To register for Special Needs Recreation, a participant must meet the Program Eligibility and complete an Participant Membership Form annually. Once Membership Form is on file, participant is eligible to attend events of their choice. Most programs allow participants to just show up, but select programs require additional registration. 3. What is the age requirement for the special needs recreation programs?

Programs are designed for individuals ages 13 and up (no maximum age). We have select programs that are available to individuals under the age of 13; however, those participants can attend our teen/adult programs with the supervision of a parent or guardian.

4. What kind of supervision do you have at events?

Our programs are primarily staffed by City Staff, individual volunteers and Community Groups. Individual volunteers undergo a Level 2 Background check prior to volunteering. Our volunteer to participant ratio for most events is 1:5. If a participant needs more attention than that, we recommend they attend events with a caretaker, parent, etc. or contact our office to make other arrangements.

5. How can I sign up for Sparklers Cheerleading?

Sparklers Cheerleading runs from fall through spring. New members are added onto the squad when a previous member leaves the team. Please contact our office to get your name placed on the waiting list and you will be contacted when an opening is made available.
