The Altamonte Springs Police Department has an established Police Explorer Program (Explorer Post Number 596). Its mission is to fill the post with enthusiastic and active young persons who are interested in developing a working knowledge of law enforcement through relationships with members of the Altamonte Springs Police Department.
Explorers are trained in areas of law enforcement for competition, but more importantly they receive training that will assist them in accomplishing their life goals. Explorers are provided a road map to success with an emphasis on education and community involvement. Participation as an explorer may be eligible to earn community service hours needed to apply for the Bright Futures Scholarship programs.

The explorer post is comprised of students who have completed the 8th grade and not yet graduated from high school.
Qualifications
- Have a 2.0 grade point average
- Be 14 to 18 years of age and a high school student.
- Have no violent crime convictions
- No discipline problems at home or school
- No consumption of any illegal drugs or intoxicants or use tobacco products
The Explorers meet Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. at the following location:
