Guilded Games

Wednesdays | 2:30 - 5 p.m.
Join us for our weekly Guilded Games event! Our diverse tabletop game collection is available to play, and once a month a librarian will introduce a new game to our participants. This is a free event and is open to ages 13 to 17.

Summer Scares

June 14 - July 20 | 4:30 - 6 p.m. | Ages 12 - 17

  • Summer Scares Kickoff | Wednesday, June 14
    Join us for a frightfully fun kickoff to the Summer Scares reading program for patrons ages 12 to 17. Tour our collection of scarily good books, but don’t look too long or you may never leave. Pick up a reading log and a take-home craft to start your summer reading journey. Turn in your log on July 20 for a chance to win some freakishly fun prizes.
  • Teen Writing Workshop: And Now…We Rebuild! | Thursday, June 22
    The apocalypse is over, and now, it’s time to rebuild! Each guest receives a random item and as a group decides how to use that item to rebuild the community.
  • Cautionary Campfire Tale | Thursday, June 29
    Gather ‘round the (virtual) campfire and get ready for full-body chills! Enjoy s’mores and creepy coloring pages while we share some of our scariest stories.
  • Franken-Toys | Thursday, July 6
    IT’S ALIVE! Take bits and pieces of old toys to create an entirely new monster. Materials are provided.
  • STEMSational: Levitating Ghosts | Thursday, July 13
    The library’s ghosts are getting restless during Summer Scares! Levitate your own ghost with the power of magnets and some spooky science. Sponsored by AS2I.
  • Booktalk & Wrap Up Party | Thursday, July 20
    Let’s wrap Summer Scares up like a mummy and celebrate all we’ve read! Join us as we discuss our favorite books, vote on literary superlatives and announce the winners of the reading logs!

Escape the Upside Down

July 28 | 5 - 7:30 p.m.
A night of games and challenges where guests must work together to escape the Upside Down. Teams will challenge each other in “Stranger Things” trivia to see who will take home the prize! Ages 10 and up are welcome to this free event. Registration is required.

ESOL Classes

This program introduces non-native speakers to the English language and provides a place to practice English language skills. Conversation Hour is an opportunity to practice all the English language skills you have learned with other non-native speakers.

U.S. Citizenship & Naturalization Preparation Class

June 6, 13, 20 & 27 | 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
This program is designed to help permanent residents prepare for the U.S. Citizenship and Naturalization process. The class helps participants learn about civics and U.S. history, while preparing them to take the U.S. Citizenship Test and Interview.

World of Spice: Understanding Flavor Connections 

June 1 & July 6 | 2 - 3 p.m.
Spice up your recipes and learn about the many flavors that can add zing to your next meal. This monthly series introduces patrons to the history, uses and fun facts about spices you may have never used. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Mobile Monday

The Library is offering one-on-one patron assistance in using the Libby or Hoopla apps. Patrons must have the apps installed prior to the session. Registration is open until filled.

Stumped by technology? The library is offering in-person workshops on topics such as computer basics, social media, smartphones and tablets, ebooks, resume building and more. Learn how to use technology for applying for jobs, connect with family and friends and access digital materials. Registration is required.

Career Bootcamp

July 25, September 19 & November 21 | 2 - 3 p.m.
Are you looking to take your career to the next level? This workshop focuses on providing you with the tools you need to create a good resume and prepare for job interviews. Learn how to use Visual CV, an online CV and resume maker and a free resource available to City Library card holders. Registration is required and space is limited to 10 participants per session. You must have a current Altamonte Springs City Library card to register.
