Geographic Information System
Geographic Information System (GIS) uses computer hardware and software to explore how location impacts people. GIS can visualize and interpret data to show relationships, patterns and trends which in turn helps in better decision making. It is essential in understanding spatial relationships in a geographic space.

The City of Altamonte Springs uses GIS as a citywide resource. It houses information such as Public Works utility data, Growth Management land use data and Police Department crime analysis data. It is also being implemented in the City’s new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software making GIS a critical asset in how the City conducts business.

The City’s GIS Division is nationally recognized and has received multiple industry awards including Technology Solution Awards from Public Technology Institute (PTI) and a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award from Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri).
