Yard Waste image1

In 1990, the State of Florida mandated that refuse and yard waste could not longer be collected together for disposal in the landfills. In December, 1991, the City of Altamonte Springs began the separation and collection of yard wastes through a program called “Yardwaste Wednesday.” Wednesday is dedicated to the collection of yard wastes. For efficiency and cost containment, the same vehicles are used for both the collection of refuse and yard waste materials. Because of this, guidelines for yard waste were developed, in part, to protect the vehicles from damage.

YARD WASTE PREPARATION GUIDELINES:

  • All yard waste must be generated from your residential property only
  • Yard waste must not be mixed with refuse. If found mixed it cannot be collected
  • Loose branches, cuttings and trimmings must be containerized (in bags, cans or tied securely in bundles). No container should be over 40 pounds.
  • Bundles cannot exceed 3 feet in length, weigh more than 40 pounds and no one branch can be over 4 inches in diameter. Bundles must be tied securely to remain intact when collected by one person.

Live Christmas trees are collected on each Wednesday during the month of January each year.
