Recycling

The City of Altamonte Springs prides itself in its continuing recycling efforts.  The City began recycling in 1988, with residential curbside customers being introduced to a voluntary newspaper collection recycling program.  In 1989 Project “APRICOT” (a Prototype Realistic image10Innovative Community of Today) was introduced.  This program was the first in Florida to utilize waste water for irrigation.  In 1990, residential curbside customers received an expanded curbside recycling program which accepted aluminum, glass, plastic and steel and was provided by a private hauler.  In order to increase efficiency and the customer service aspect of the program the City began servicing its residents in 1995.
