While Lake Lotus Park has been open to the public since 1995, the City of Altamonte Springs intended to utilize the property for park lands when the parcel was acquired in 1972.

The actual development commenced in February 1992. At that time the property had undergone no improvements so access to the park was the first priority. Once a road was cut, bridges were built and the first three picnic shelters were erected. By the end of 1992 we finished the above listed improvements and plans for the other necessary amenities were approved. In the years 1993 thru 1995 many projects were undertaken and completed. Some of the larger ones included restrooms and a mile of boardwalk, playgrounds and the paved entrance road.

Even though we opened to the public in 1995, development to the park continues. Other additions included a maintenance shop/office, a ranger residence and an off-site parking lot. And there are still improvements to come. Plans are complete and we anxiously await the construction of a designated tram road as well as an Educational/Interpretive Facility.

Once these two projects are completed, the majority of development of Lake Lotus Park will be finished and our efforts will be concentrated on maintenance of existing facilities and developing programming.
