Criminal Investigations

Breadcrumbs

The Criminal Investigations Section consists of nine (9) detectives specializing in the investigation of robbery, sex crimes, burglary, auto thefts, and economic/computer crimes.   These detectives also handle general investigations such as theft and criminal mischief.  The department’s intelligence officer and crime analyst are also assigned to the Criminal Investigations Section.

Police criminal investigations are normally initiated after an initial police report is made by a police officer with our Department.  If the victim has left our area and cannot return, the law enforcement agency with jurisdiction where the victim is currently located will sometimes take the initial report and forward it to our agency.

Occasionally, a victim cannot find a law enforcement agency willing to take the initial report.  In those cases, we will accept a courtesy report from the victim, but it must include a sworn statement from the victim or the person reporting.  If you need to file this type of report with our agency, download the instructions and courtesy incident report from the links below. Follow the instructions for completing and returning the report.

We cannot guarantee insurance companies will honor the report as proof of loss, and we cannot guarantee the report will initiate a criminal investigation.
