Street Crimes Unit / K- 9 Unit

Breadcrumbs
Street Crimes Unit

The Street Crimes Unit (SCU) consists of one lieutenant and four officers.  The primary goal of the SCU is to identify and arrest individuals responsible for street crimes, such as larceny from motor vehicles, auto theft, and robbery, and to conduct surveillance and decoy operations in “hot spots.”  The unit utilizes unmarked vehicles, along with foot and bicycle patrols, to conduct surveillance and stakeouts in areas within the City that have been identified as having a high occurrence of street crimes, or in areas where pedestrian or shopping traffic are likely to attract criminals.

The SCU wears either a tactical uniform or civilian clothing, depending on the mission.  The unit also performs specialized operations, such as high-risk entries for warrants, truancy abatement missions around Lake Brantley High School, and they monitor sexual offenders, registered felons, and juveniles on probation who reside in the City.

K-9 Unit

The Department’s K-9 is used to assist in the search of buildings and vehicles for the presence of suspected criminals or narcotics.  The K-9 unit can be used to track criminal suspects or to find missing children or other persons.  The unit is frequently asked to give K-9 demonstrations at schools and other locations in the City, and is usually a crowd favorite at many community events.
