Q: Where is the Police Department located?
A: The Police Department is located just one (1) block west of Ronald Reagan Blvd. (County Road 427), off of State Road 436, at 175 Newburyport Avenue, (Public Safety Complex).

Q: What employment positions are open for the Police Department at this time?
A: Available positions and application dates change frequently. Please call the city's job line at (407) 571-8011 for the most current information.

Q: What are the laws or regulations on car restraints for children?
A: Florida State Statute 316.613 states that if any child is 3 years of age or younger and transported in a motor vehicle, they shall be properly secured in a separate crash-tested carrier restraint. After reaching 4 years of age, children may be secured with regular seat belts.

Q:  Do you install child passenger safety seats? A: No, however technicians are available by appointment on Thursdays between 9 am and 11 am (except holidays ) to teach you how to install them.  Educational Classes are scheduled through www.safekids.org.

Q: What is the City's Ordinance on loud noises?
A: City Code, Sections 12-39 & 40, state that is shall be unlawful to make, cause or continue to make or cause any excessive, unnecessary or unusually loud noise that either annoys, disturbs, injures or endangers the comfort, repose, health, peace or safety of others within the City. Additionally, section 12-4 prohibits noisy business operations between the hours of 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM under most circumstances.

Q: What is the City's Ordinance on junk cars?
A: City Code, Section 17-1/2 states that no person shall leave any partially dismantled, non-operating, wrecked or junked vehicle on any street or highway within the City.

Q: What do I do if I want to contest a citation I was issued?
A: Call the Clerk of the Court's Traffic Division at 407-665-4323 and request a hearing.

Q: How can I get someone's vehicle towed?
A: If it is on your property, call a towing service and notify the local police.

Q: What is the City's Ordinance on boat speed on local lakes?
A: There are no speed limits on waterways in Altamonte Springs, except for Idle Speeds in certain 'No Wake Zones" and within 75 feet of the shore line or the end of any piers. A copy of the Marine Patrol Ordinance can be obtained at the Police Department or by using the link above to City Ordinances.

Q: Do you offer fingerprinting services and what are the hours?
A: We offer fingerprinting services at the COPS Center located in the Altamonte Mall, lower level between JCPenney and Macy's, Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (excluding holidays). The cost for inked fingerprints is $5.00 per card for residents of Altamonte Springs and $10.00 per card for non-residents. Live scan fingerprints are $10.00 for residents and $15.00 for non-residents. For more information about the COPS Center, call 407-571-8463.

Q: What is the cost to get copies of reports?
A: The average cost for copies of a report is between $.60 and $2.50 each. Crash reports are generally available within 72 hours from the date of occurrence. For more information call 407-571-8214. 

Q: Can I register my bicycle with the Police Department in case it is stolen?
A: No, but it is a good idea to keep a photo of your bicycle as well as informaiton indicating the make, model, and serial number in case you need to report your bicycle stolen. 

Q: Can I report a crime on-line?
A: No, however in certain cases where the victim lives out of the area, we may accept a written report from another police agency or allow the victim to complete a courtesy police report. Please call our Investigations Division at 407-571-8270 to determine if you are eligible to complete a courtesy police report. Click courtesy police report to download.

A: The Florida Highway Patrol has the forms available on-line by clicking Driver Report of a Traffic Crash.
