Promotional Testing

Breadcrumbs

The Altamonte Springs Police Department offers many promotional opportunities to its officers via two different tracks. First, officers who choose the career track may advance from Police Officer to Police Officer First Class, Senior Police Officer, and Master Police Officer.  Additionally, an officer may choose the command track and test for lieutenant.  Further promotions above lieutenant are conducted via an interview process.  All promotions are reviewed and approved by the Chief of Police.

Promotion to higher rank requires competition in increasingly more complex testing procedures. Testing components include written tests, in-basket exercises, role-playing, and preparation of operational plans.

Tests for each rank are held annually when openings are available. Those officers advancing in rank not only receive pay incentives, but enjoy greater job responsibilities as well.
