Wellness Program

Breadcrumbs

The Altamonte Springs Police Department has had a mandatory wellness program for all police officers and community service officers since 1987. The program is based on the world-famous Cooper Institute® for Aerobic Research standards. The test is given to all applicants as part of the employment screening process. In-service officers are tested each April and October. Minimum performance standards are enforced. Those who excel in the test are eligible for 16 hours off each period.

The test consists of six events: sit-ups; bench press; leg press; sit & reach flexibility; body fat composition; and a 1-mile walk or 1.5 mile run aerobic fitness test. The tests are adjusted by age and sex of the participant.

The Department has a fully equipped workout facility featuring free weights and weight machines. The cardio-vascular fitness room has several running treadmills, stationary bicycles, a stair-stepper, and a rowing machine.
