Block Training

Breadcrumbs

The Altamonte Springs Police Department boasts of one of the most active in-service training programs in Central Florida. The semi-annual block sessions are one week long and address high liability issues which pose operational and legal challenges to the Department.

Defensive tactics and expandable baton training is conducted semi-annually. These are dynamic, hands-on sessions which involve considerable physical activity.

Firearms training is conducted twice each year. One session is devoted to qualification firing of all issued and personal firearms and tactical situation training. The Department uses the Florida CJSTC recruit course of fire for qualification. The other session deals with shooting in low-light conditions. The session involving tactical firearms training cover fire and movement, decision-making shooting, use of cover, team tactics, and weapon malfunctions.

SIMUNITION® training is also held twice a year.  During these intense, high energy, role playing sessions officers are faced with different scenarios in which the officer has to use his/her training to resolve the situation.  Additionally, ammunition similar to paintballs is used to simulate live fire scenarios.

Specialized Training

Training in specialized topics is conducted several times each year as specific needs are recognized. This training may take the form of a guest lecturer, video taped presentations, or off-site sessions. Recent topics included cellular phone fraud, dealing with persons with epilepsy, injunctions for domestic violence, and juvenile detention and house arrest.
